Bill Semple (President): Please note, the following feedback is preliminary. The Times Tables Kit has not been executed as written. Instead, the participant has experimented with a few of our techniques. It is not uncommon for educators to “try a little Semple.” Due to the success experienced when only using a portion of our strategy the participant now plans to fully implement this Kit in the last month of the school year. We were happy to receive the feedback below and we are looking forward to a additional comments at the end of June.

1. How many years have you taught?
Seven Years

2. What grade level are you currently teaching?
K-4

3. What do you teach?
Literacy Coach

4. How many students have you enrolled in the Semple Math Challenge?
About 15

5. Have you executed the Kit in good faith, as written with no omissions or substitutions thus far?
Unfortunately, we have not been able to implement the program the correct way. However, we have seen good results with the parts that we have introduced. For example, the students love the songs and have been able to transfer their memory of the songs to their math studies. However, at times they still get confused especially with the eight times tables.  We are planning on using it more regularly after our Spring Recess.

6. Please comment on the math performance of each student as they entered the Challenge. Did they know their multiplication facts?
The students did not know their multiplication facts before we introduced the songs.

7. What progress have you seen in their math skills over the last 30 days? Are they improving?
They are making slight improvements however I do believe that once the program is implemented more consistently they will make great strides.

8. How do you rate the overall attitude, outlook and self-esteem of each student on a scale of 1 - 5, 1 being the lowest score? Comments are welcome.
3.5

9. How does the portion of Semple Math Times Tables Kit you have now seen compare to any "non-Semple" learning materials you have used in the past? (Please do not identify and materials and programs by name.)
Before we introduced Semple the students were all very bored with the rote practice (writing over and over) of the multiplication facts and therefore stopped practicing. Yet, when Semple was introduced the students were very enthusiastic and their confidence with multiplication increased; we have heard them singing the songs after school and have witnessed  them using the songs during the day while doing math problems.

10. Could you please share your findings from any testing with consideration for student privacy?
N/A

11. Would you recommend this Times Tables Kit to other educators? Why or why not?
Yes, I would definitely recommend the Times Table Kit because I have witnessed first hand not only the success of the program (and this success is without the program being correctly implemented) and also I have seen the enthusiasm in the students.

Dear Bill,

On behalf of my principal, colleagues, students and families  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing our school to participate in the Semple Math Challenge. I am confident that your program will enable many students to develop a healthy, secure love of learning and mathematics.   Your kindness and generosity will not be forgotten and will reach the hearts and minds of many precious learners.

In return, we would like to extend our gratitude by providing you with the most  accurate and consistent feedback possible..  Yet, in order to provide you with such information we must  first implement the program whole heartedly.  While our teachers have the best of intentions and are very enthusiastic to put your invaluable program to the test, they unfortunately have not yet had the opportunity to do so. That being said, we would like to begin the challenge in late May and continue through ( religiously) the end of this school year; June 27, 2007. We hope that this time frame works  for you. Please let us know.

Thanking  you again for your most sincere generosity.

All my Best,
