Coppell, Texas, Round 2
Tracy Aukes Special Education Teacher
1. How many students remain enrolled in the Semple Math Challenge?
3
2. How have you incorporated Semple Math materials into your curriculum?
All students immersed in Semple
3. What progress have you seen in their math skills over the past 30 days? Are they on or below grade level?
They are making good progress. They are still below grade level, but we have not yet reached
the higher level concepts that will get them on to grade level. We are working on their foundation
skills – adding/subtracting.
4. How do you rate the overall attitude, outlook and self-esteem of each student on a scale of 1 – 5, 1
being the lowest score? Comments are welcome
All of them rate about a 4-5. They are still very excited about the program and are feeling successful.
5. How does the portion of Semple Math you have now seen compare to any “non-Semple” learning materials
you have used in the past? (Please do not identify any materials or programs by name)
It is much more concrete and visual for my kids. Instead of memorizing, they learn associations to
the concepts, stories, etc. This makes it easier for them to remember.
6. Has any standardized or local testing been used as part of this Challenge?
I have completed old release SDAA 2nd grade tests. Right now they have improved on questions involving
basic adding/subtracting functions.
7. Would you recommend this program to other educators? Why or why not?
Definitely, I am seeing REAL success!
Bill Semple (President): Thank you for immersing the students in the program. Thank you for executing the
program as written. And thank you for sharing your feedback with us.
I am wondering what lesson number you are working on in Level One and whether you will be able to continue working with these same students next year? If at all possible I would like to see your students complete all four levels of our program and I am willing to donate the necessary materials to your effort. A student who has had our entire program will have basic skills mathematics mastery at a fifth grade level. Moreover, all of the skills and concepts will have been stored to long term memory for life! Your students have a wonderful teacher and now they have the right program. I would like to see them realize the full benefit from this situation. And I would like our web visitors to be able to follow your progress. Please let me know if this is possible via the following email... challenge@semplemath.com |
